Welcome to the Center
for Global and International Studies
The Shirley Conner Hardinge Center for Global and International Studies enhances the teaching, learning and research of global issues at Hood College. The center develops innovative ways to educate students in a world where a global perspective and cross-cultural understanding are essential to effective leadership within all academic disciplines. Furthermore, the center provides Hood College students with a career path focus in the broadly defined categories of global business and economics, global politics and global cultures.
Established in 2010, the Shirley Conner Hardinge Center for Global and International Studies works with multiple offices and departments on campus to enhance the teaching, learning and research of global issues at Hood College. The center helps students get involved with curricular initiatives and co-curricular activities that will prepare them for careers in international affairs.
Hood College offers a robust number of programs that prepare students for careers and graduate studies in international relations. Majors are offered in global studies, Middle Eastern studies, Latin American studies, and Spanish, French and German. We also offer interesting minors and concentrations, such as international economics and finance.
There are many of global studies students, faculty and alumni who are in some way noteworthy and outstanding! Our exceptional faculty are experts in their fields and through their local and global connections, help students secure awesome internships. Students conduct research, write departmental honors papers and travel to amazing places, making a difference in a variety of ways.
Hood College is enriched and energized by the intellectual, professional and personal goals of individual students of diverse races, ethnicities and ages. International Student Services is committed to maintaining a culturally inclusive and supportive campus. Through participation in planned programs, the College community takes an active role in raising awareness about domestic and international concerns.
The Center for Career Development and Experiential Education regularly hosts information sessions about programs available to Hood students; presentations by businesses and organizations seeking interns, volunteers and employees; and career preparation tutorials. Students work with career consultants to help guide them along their career path and coordinate internship and volunteer opportunities.
At Hood, we understand the importance of preparing students to think critically and to situate their understanding of the world within a global context. Study abroad allows students in every discipline the opportunity to leave our Maryland campus, expand their understanding of the world and enhance classroom learning with firsthand international experiences. How will you "think globally?"
