Faculty

M. Elizabeth Mayfield, Ph.D., Mathematics Education Program Director, is Chair of the Department of Mathematics at Hood. Her undergraduate training was in secondary mathematics education, and she taught high school mathematics in North Carolina before entering graduate school.

She has served on the Board of the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics as Higher Education Representative and has published in their journal, the Banneker Banner.

The full-time faculty is supplemented by adjunct faculty, many of whom are leaders in the field of mathematics, working in the local school systems. This blend of full-time faculty and practicing educators bring many years of experience and an in-depth knowledge of the best current practices in mathematics education.
