Management of Information Technology (M.S.)

Program of Study

The Master of Science in the Management of Information Technology (MIT) is an inter-discipline graduate degree designed to meet the growing demand for managers with both business and information technology skills. The purpose of the MIT program is to prepare women and men who will be responsible for managing information technology projects and teams in organizations.

This preparation will be accomplished through a comprehensive set of studies which provide students with knowledge and skills related to 1) the business issues associated with the management of complex, large technology projects and the people who work within those projects; and, 2) the discipline of information technology and the issues which must be confronted in order to consider, design, develop, manage, implement, and deploy successful information technology solutions within organizations.

Program Requirements

The M.S. in Management of Information Technology is a 36-credit program. Although the MIT degree program is open to individuals holding a bachelor's degree in any discipline, it may be necessary to complete a series of foundation courses in order to attain the appropriate background for study. In addition to the admission requirements established by the Graduate School, it is also desired that applicants have at least a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 at the completion of their undergraduate work. In addition, submitted letters of reference, a resume, and an interview with the director of the Management of Information Technology degree program are encouraged and will contribute to the acceptance decision.

Faculty

The courses in the MIT program are taught by full-time faculty of the Department of Economics and Management and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Hood faculty are dedicated professionals who are active in research as well as consulting. Hood faculty maintain an up-to-date understanding of current information technology and management issues through continuous professional development. Further enhancing the MIT program are part-time and adjunct faculty who are management and information technology professionals in government and private industry.
