"U" Newsletter - Fall 2011
The summer is ending, and we are all settling into the fall schedule. The Healthy "U" Committee has developed a wide-range of group activities that touch all of the seven dimensions of wellness.
Healthy Start - Beginning 9/13 - On Tuesday mornings at 7:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Join members of the Healthy "U" committee to work out to a collection of exercise DVDs. Classes will be held in the Exercise Room across from the Weight Room. Click here to see the weekly challenge.
Midday Meditation - Beginning 9/13, Beth O'Malley will facilitate weekly campus guided group meditation sessions from 12:15 p.m. - 12:45 p.m. in the McHenry Interfaith Prayer Room in the chapel basement..
Employee Development sessions will be sponsored by Healthy "U" in partnership with Business Health Services, our Employee Assistance Program. All three sessions will be held in the Coblentz Seminar Room from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. For registration information, please click here.

Hood 3K Walk/Run on Sunday, September 25 to benefit the Hood College Track and Cross Country programs. Participants who make at least a $5.00 donation will receive a special t-shirt which can be worn to support Hood teams in the future!
Walk to Stop Diabetes on 10/9. JoAnne Bodine will captain the Hood College team. Please plan to help our team captain show our community that we are serious about preventing this desease through walking together to raise money for research.
Food Day on 10/24 in the Coblentz Seminar Room at noon. Healthy "U" will be hosting a healthy pot luck lunch with a special presentation from Sherie Sheran, Regional Nutritionist & Wellness Coordinator, from Aramark. For more detail on this event, please click here!
Mental Health First Aid Training beginning on three Friday afternoons, 10/28, 11/4, and 11/11 from Noon - 4:00 p.m. in the Marx Center. For more information on the course, please click here and check out Mental Health First Aid Maryland. .
Hood College Athletic Center Celebration starting 11/7, Healthy "U" will sponsor orientations to the new fitness center including demonstrations on how to use the equipment, a discussion of fitness goals and tips, and a review of safety guidelines. There will also be an opportunity to build buddy groups for different time periods to encourage you to meet your fitness targets. More information will come at a later date.

Healthy "U" will offer free yoga classes led by Hood Alum, Dorcas Quynn McWilliams '01, owner of Sol Yoga. More information will follow in the weeks ahead.
