The Hood College Graduate School awarded the Excellent in Teaching Award to Carol Jim, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Information Technology. This graduate student-nominated award recognizes teaching quality and exceptional commitment to graduate education.

Dr. Jim started her career with a Mathematics major and after she graduated with her BA, she came back to her Hood home for her graduate degree in Computer Science.  Her master's thesis on supervised learning algorithms for denial of service attack prediction paved the way for admission to the doctoral program in computer science at the School of Engineering, George Washington University where she worked on combining mathematical and computational techniques to model the process of cell development. Since then, Dr. Jim has returned to Hood College as Visiting faculty and now as a tenure-track faculty member.

Dr. Jim’s teaching and research interests are focused on computer and network forensics, ethical hacking, and the application of data mining techniques for network security and intrusion detection. She also serves as the faculty coach of Cyber Blazers, Hood's ethical hacking student team.

Congratulations to Carol Jim, Ph.D - we are honored to have her as part of Hood College's faculty body!
