Little is a LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor), and works professionally as an offsite therapist at Advanced Behavioral Health in Frederick, Maryland. Little is also set to join Hood’s inaugural counselor education and supervision Ph.D. program this coming fall. We spoke with Little about her experiences in the counseling program, how the program has impacted her career and what she is looking forward to in the Ph.D. program.

Can you discuss your educational and career background?

I am an LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor). I graduated from Towson University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology. I went on to continue my education at Hood College, graduating with a masters in counseling in mental health in 2019. Since 2016, I have been working as an offsite therapist at Advanced Behavioral Health in Frederick, Maryland. I have a certificate in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which allows me to do trauma work and anxiety therapy.

Why did you choose Hood College and this program?

As an alumnae of Hood College and a Frederick native, I jumped on the opportunity to continue my education at Hood College because of the professors and opportunities they provide.

As a graduate student, do you have a certain mindset or learning style that has helped you grow during your studies?

Organization is my key to success. Setting time for studies and still being able to have free time is important to me. Setting boundaries between my personal and school life allows me to be effective on both sides.

What do you currently enjoy the most about being at Hood College?

It’s close to home and it is a small program. Everything feels very personal and not like I am a number in a program.

How do you think it does or will help you in your career and life?

I believe getting my Ph.D. will allow me to move forward with the academic aspect of my career as well as going on to be a counseling supervisor—representation matters.

What advice would you like to give to either your peers or an undergraduate who may be considering taking their education to the next level?

If you are thinking about it, do it. Take it slow if you need to, but do it.

Any other information/fun facts that you would like to provide?

I have been coaching basketball for almost 10 years.
