"Hood has done a great job at preparing me for what I want to do post-graduate school thanks to helpful professors who are always willing to help and give recommendations for learning opportunities outside the classroom."
Please share briefly about your educational/professional background.
I completed my undergraduate studies in accounting in Nigeria. I earned an MBA in Tennessee before coming to Maryland for another Master’s degree - Management Information Systems at Hood.
You are currently doing a CPT at DALY Computers. Could you share why you chose this particular internship?
I chose the internship opportunity at DALY Computers thanks to information shared by Hood’s Career Center. At DALY, I work as a technical services summer intern. The company’s responsibility is refreshing the technology devices at schools in the Anne Arundel County region here in Maryland. The role involves:
- Hardware assembly and OS and software installation
- Computer registration
- Running of appropriate DALY batch scripts
- Accessibility testing
I chose this particular internship because I really wanted to get hands-on experience on how technology is used for essential services in the world today.
What was the process of obtaining CTP like for you? Was it difficult to get approved?
Obtaining a CPT wasn’t a difficult process. I registered for a summer class, filled some forms, got them signed by the appropriate authorities, got my new form I-20 and went straight to work. The process was hassle free.
Do you have any advice for international students looking to get an internship?
For international students looking to get an internship, I would strongly encourage that they do everything they can to get that experience while in graduate school, even if it is just for the summer. It gives students an opportunity to see how their program is applied in the real world which ultimately prepares them for a prospective career.
Also, I would emphasize the importance of pursuing an internship in line with your course of study.
How did your Hood degree help you with your skill set and career?
Hood has done a great job at preparing me for what I want to do post-graduate school thanks to helpful professors who are always willing to help and give recommendations for learning opportunities outside the classroom.
I've only been at Hood for a year and can boldly say that I have a clearer picture of my goals and how I can achieve them. Also, I have ambitious classmates who push me to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.
