Why did you choose Hood College?

I chose Hood College after been advised by Fort Detrick's education counselor that it would help me meet my future goals of working in Cybersecurity and eventually earning a P.h.D. Hood College has small classes, teachers know their students, and the environment is great.

What is it like serving on Active Duty while also being a Hood graduate student?

Military duty comes first so it is challenging to go to school at the same time. However, with commitment and dedication, every active military member can do it.

Often times there is a scheduling conflict between class and military duties. My advice for military members who want to take advantage of their educational benefits is to consider online classes if they are available. In spring 2020, Hood College will be offering its graduate programs in Information Technology and Cybersecurity online as well.

What is the hardest part of being on Active Duty while also being a graduate student?

From my own experience, it is challenging to balance my class schedule with my military responsibilities.

As an active duty soldier, I have less available time to fulfill my student responsibilities such as group work and research time at the library. I also find it difficult sometimes to meet the demands of homework due dates and in-person class attendance.

What advice would you give fellow service members regarding pursuing higher education?

My main advice for fellow active duty service members is that nothing is impossible. If I can do it, you can do it too!

What do you enjoy most about the Graduate School at Hood College?

I really appreciate my Cybersecurity faculty's flexibility and their desire to get every student involved in the classroom.

How do you think the graduate program will help you in your career and life?

After graduation I hope to work in the IT field or in a government agency. My Hood College graduate degree will help me develop a leadership strategy which I can apply to my work with future organizations.
