The Future of Hood Baseball

The Hood College baseball team has been practicing and playing home games at Frederick Community College. Hood's ability to use these facilities will come to an end in spring 2026. Knowing our lease with FCC is coming to an end, Hood has been exploring several options in the area.

Hood has approached the City of Frederick about retrofitting the softball field at Max Kehne Park into a baseball/softball venue that meets all NCAA requirements. The College is currently in the information-gathering stage; it is important to note that the park will remain a public space, owned and operated by the City of Frederick and governed by the City's regulations and policies.

The College would use the field during designated times (prescheduled with the Office of Parks and Recreation). It is expected that baseball practice, games, tournaments and fundraising events (e.g., camps) would require an estimated 750 hours annually, primarily in the afternoon and early evening. Based on the park's published hours (dawn-10 p.m.), this is approximately 15 percent of the totality of park's operating hours annually. The park would be available for community events and usage 85 percent of the time.

As part of this partnership, the College would invest in upgrading the baseball field and related facilities, thus enhancing both the experience and utility of the space for everyone, including the community.

We are committed to working with the City of Frederick and the community on traffic management strategies, including signage and designated parking areas, to prevent congestion in the neighborhood during events. Hood players, coaches and fans would be directed to park on Hood College campus and walk to the field to minimize traffic in and out of the park.Well-maintained parks and sports facilities can enhance neighborhood desirability. Studies have shown that proximity to parks with quality amenities can positively influence property values.
