Beautiful Swimmers Revisited Documentary Screening
FREDERICK, Maryland—A film viewing of the documentary “Beautiful Swimmers Revisited” and a public lecture by producer Tom Horton will take place April 6 at 6 p.m. in Hood College’s Whitaker Campus Center Commons.
This film explores the life cycle and life story of the Atlantic blue crab. It explains how the livelihoods and culture of Chesapeake watermen depend on the Atlantic blue crab and the challenges for conservation. In the documentary, Horton meets with many different groups of people, from consumers to scientists, who have been eating these crabs and studying them for generations.
The film reflects on changes since the publication of the 1976 book “Beautiful Swimmers,” written by Pulitzer Prize winner William W. Warner.
Sponsored by the Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies, this event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Claire Hudson at hudson@hood.edu or 301-696-3318.
