Fall Concert Season Begin with Faculty Showcase

FREDERICK, Maryland—Hood College’s fall concert season will begin with a faculty showcase Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall.

Performers will include violinist RoseAnn Lester, cellist David Howard, saxophonist and clarinetist Dave Duree, soprano Lisa Dodson, baritone Antony Zwerdling, and pianists Kuei-i Wu and Laine Beachley. They will perform works by Brahms, Vitali, Tomasi, Mussorgsky and others.

Lester is the violinist of the Hood College Chamber Players and has recorded for Koch International Classics, Centaur Records and RWYA Recordings.

Howard retired from the National Symphony Orchestra in 2011 after being a member for 41 years. He now performs with the Frederick Symphony Orchestra. Throughout his career, he has maintained a teaching studio and has taught numerous students through the NSO’s Youth Fellowship Program.

Duree was principal chair saxophone of the U.S. Naval Academy Band for 10 years and principal clarinetist of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra for 22 years.

Dodson is a sought-after soloist who has performed with Opera Vivente, Maryland Lyric Opera, OperaDelaware, Maryland Concert Opera, Mozart and Friends Opera Company, and Little Patuxent Opera Institute.

Zwerdling has performed more than 25 operatic roles. The companies he has appeared with include Washington National Opera, Opera Lafayette, Wolf Trap Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Lake George Opera, Washington Concert Opera, Opera Boston and Ash Lawn Opera.

Wu has presented solo and chamber recitals over the years, as well as concerto performances with orchestras in Taiwan, Spain, Austria and here in the U.S.

Beachley has been associated with Hood College since 1998, and she has taught private lessons to people of all ages and skill levels.
