Graduate Students Present Three-Minute Theses

FREDERICK, Maryland—The Graduate School at Hood College will hold its second annual Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition May 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Whitaker Campus Center Commons.

Graduate students will present their research projects in three minutes using just one PowerPoint slide. No other resources or props are allowed. They will be judged on clarity, pace, audience engagement and stage presence. All attendees will be welcome to cast their votes for best presentation. There will be a judge’s winner and a People’s Choice Award.

These entertaining presentations will be given by master’s and doctoral students from a variety of programs including education, biomedical science, environmental biology, thanatology and business administration. Presentation topics will include developments in virus and cancer research, environmental pollutants, water ecology, religious congregation dynamics, vocabulary acquisition in children, various business/managerial topics and attitudes toward death and dying.

This 3MT competition was founded in 2008 by the University of Queensland in Australia, and it is now held at more than 350 colleges and universities across 59 countries worldwide.
