Hood Musicians to Perform and Serve in Florida
FREDERICK, Maryland—The Hood College Choir, along with other students from the Department of Music, will present a concert and participate in a service project in Florida the week of May 13.
The concert will take place May 13 at 1 p.m. in Coral Gables at the United Church of Christ at 3010 De Soto Blvd. The program will include selections by Hassler, Eccles, Gjeilo, Whitacre and others. Performers will include the Hood Choir, Chamber Singers, student soloists and saxophonist, and works by a student and a faculty composer.
The Hood Choir is directed by Lynn Staininger and accompanied by pianist and organist William D. Powell III, both instructors in Hood’s music department. Also accompanying the students on the trip will be the Rev. Beth O’Malley, McHenry Dean of the Chapel, and Wayne L. Wold, professor of music and chair of the music department.
The service projects will include helping the church in its community food pantry as well as assisting with several other partnerships they have in the wider Coral Gables and Miami communities.
