Polaris Piano Trio to Perform
FREDERICK, Maryland—The Polaris Piano Trio will perform Hood College’s annual Phyllis and Ardine Gorden Chamber Concert on Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall.
The trio includes violinist Laura Kobayashi, cellist Kenneth Law and pianist Stephen Buck. They will play pieces by Lili Boulanger, Franz Schubert, Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Louise Farrenc. Each of the three has been performing for more than 20 years with numerous performances around the world.
Kobayashi is a member of the Main Street Chamber Players, and she is a founding member of Main Street Music Solutions in Fairfax, Virginia. She has won several awards for her teaching at universities around the country. She has also presented guest artist master classes, workshops and clinics around the world with her duo partner/pianist Susan Keith Gray. The pair has recorded two CDs of music composed by women for Albany Records, which have been broadcast on NPR. A third CD is schedule to be released this year.
Law is a founding member of Main Street Studio and Main Street Chamber Players. He has performed as a soloist internationally, and he has recorded orchestral and chamber music for Albany Records, New Albion and Telarc. He has won multiple awards for teaching, and his students have been accepted into prestigious schools, including the Eastman School of Music and the Peabody and Oberlin Conservatories.
Buck is a performer, chamber musician and musical entrepreneur who actively performs thought the U.S. and Europe. He co-founded the AlpenKammerMusik Festival in Austria, an intensive 11-day course for musicians of all ages. He performs contemporary music with FIRE, a music ensemble in New York, while performing 19th- and 20th-century music with the Polaris Trio. While studying at Yale, he won the Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition.
