The Queen's Six Performs

FREDERICK, Maryland—The Queen’s Six, a British singing group, will perform at Hood College on April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall as part of its first ever U.S. tour.

The group includes countertenors Daniel Brittain and Tim Carleston, tenors Nick Madden and Dominic Bland, and baritones/basses Andrew Thompson and Simon Whiteley. Based at Windsor Castle, these members make up half of the Lay Clerks of St. George’s Chapel, whose homes lie within the castle walls.

They sing regularly for the Royal family at private and state occasions. In 2018, they expect to perform at the weddings of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, both of which will be held in St. George’s Chapel.

Individually, members of The Queen’s Six have appeared in many of the most prestigious vocal ensembles on the circuit, including The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars and Tenebrae. Their repertoire extends far beyond the reach of the choir stalls: from austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals and haunting folk songs to upbeat jazz and pop arrangements.

The group’s latest recording projects include the Christmas 2015 cover CD for BBC Music Magazine, a CD of secular Tudor music entitled “Her Heavenly Harmony: Profane Music from the Royal Court,” and a self-produced CD of some of their much loved pop and jazz arrangements.
