Venezuelan Guest Lecturer

FREDERICK, Maryland—Venezuelan professor Vicente Lecuna will visit Hood College on March 1 as a guest lecturer in two classes to share his expertise on urban planning and violence in Caracas, Venezuela.

Lecuna, Ph.D., will give a lecture in English on “The Architecture of the Venezuelan Violent State: Caracas’ Parque Central” in the Tatem Arts Center, Room 213 from 3:25 to 4:40 p.m. He will follow that with a lecture in Spanish to the Latin American Literature and Popular Culture class in Tatem, Room 214 from 5 to 6:15 p.m., in which he will discuss his research on Caracas’ Parque Central, as well as populism in Latin America.

Lecuna is an associate professor in the Department of Literature at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He has published extensively on urban design, populism and contemporary narrative in Latin America. He served as Cisneros Visiting Scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. Lecuna is currently a Craig M. Cogut Visiting Professor of Latin American Studies at Brown University.
