Biography

At Hood, I’ve merged the two passions that first sent me on to graduate study: fiction writing and American literature. I advise Hood’s literary and arts magazine, Wisteria, and I direct the Creative Writing concentration for the English major.

While I have published scholarship on violence in American women’s writing, my focus now is on fiction, with work published in Glimmer Train; Adirondack Review; Blunderbuss; Brain, Child; and Passager, among other magazines.

I'm currently completing a third novel and drafting a fourth.  As a working writer, I am serious about guiding my classes through the complexities of drafting, crafting, revising, submitting, and—yes—rejection-handling.  My goal is to help students forge lively, thoughtful, and compassionate writing communities that will sustain them here at Hood and beyond.
