The Shirley Conner Hardinge Center for Global and International Studies, enhances the teaching, learning and research of global issues at Hood College.
The center develops innovative ways to educate students in a world where a global perspective and cross-cultural understanding are essential to effective leadership within all academic disciplines. It provides potential and current Hood College students with a career path focus in the following broadly defined categories: global business and economics, global politics, and global cultures.
The center, established in 2010 due to the generous gift of Hood alumna Shirley Conner Hardinge, works with multiple offices and departments on campus to prepare students to pursue internships, study abroad experiences, departmental honors papers and curricular initiatives and co-curricular activities that seek to prepare students for their careers.
The Center for Global Studies and Hood College is also recognized as a higher education member of the United Nations Academic Impact program. Students have received trainings in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (2015-2030) and have visited the UN headquarters in New York City. In addition, Alyssa Taylor '23 was the first Hood College student to ever speak at the United Nations in spring 2023 due to the College's partnership with UNAI.
