President Chapdelaine to Speak at ERUCC
FREDERICK, Maryland—As part of Hood College’s 125th Anniversary celebration, the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ has invited Hood College President Andrea E. Chapdelaine to speak during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on April 15.
President Chapdelaine will honor ERUCC’s part in the founding of Hood and thank the Church for its continuing support for education. Special recognition will be given to graduates of Hood.
“From its founding, ERUCC has been committed to the education of persons of all ages,” said Reverend Barbara Daniel. “ERUCC is pleased to have been the setting whereby leaders of the Potomac Synod of the German Reformed Church gathered and declared that women in the Church ought to have an equivalent liberal arts education as the men in the church. We celebrate our long history with Hood College and are so pleased to mark the schools’ 125th history as we welcome President Chapdelaine.”
Five members of the Church founded the Woman’s College of Frederick on May 12, 1893. The College was officially chartered in 1897, and it was renamed to Hood College in 1913, to honor Margaret Scholl Hood, whose land donation allowed the school to move from rented facilities in Downtown Frederick to its own campus in the northwest region of the city.
