Leadership Frederick County

Hood College is partnering with the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce to offer greater support to Leadership Frederick County (LFC), a program run by the Chamber since the 1980s. Hood, with its mission of using education to empower students to lead purposeful lives of responsibility, leadership, service and civic engagement, is excited to partner with the Chamber in supporting their mission of creating value for their members through leadership and education. The College sees this opportunity to support the Chamber as part of their civic responsibility to support leadership development in Frederick County.

Hood’s role in this partnership is to bring customized leadership master classes to the program. These classes are modeled from Hood College’s doctoral program in organizational leadership (DOL). The incorporation of graduate-level leadership instruction into the curriculum strengthen the academic value of the program, building on the success of its experiential learning component.

Faculty and alumni of the doctoral program in Organizational leadership with expertise in organizational leadership, business, and education have carefully designed this leadership curriculum. Hood leaders offer their expertise, facilitate master classes, and engage with LFC participants to provide them incredible insights on leadership.

This partnership also provides incredible opportunities to doctoral students to engage with the community and contribute. Hear from some of our LFC alumni who worked closely with our DOL coaches:

What was your experience like with the LFC-Hood leadership curriculum?

My year in LFC was the first year Hood was involved! It was extremely beneficial. I learned so much more I thought I would of.

What was your experience with the coaches from Hood and were they helpful to you?

The coaches were great! Some better than others but all in all it was great getting feedback and support and suggestions from them.

What was your experience like with the LFC-Hood leadership curriculum?

I always looked forward to the LFC morning masterclass. The oppurtunity to discuss meaningful topics with a room fill of leaders was inspiring. It was amazing to hear leaders in different industries and sectors share similar experiences and concerns as mine. It was even more amazing as we counseled with each other and created paths forward. I wish we were able to spend more time in these discussions.

What was your experience with the coaches from Hood and were they helpful to you?

I enjoyed the meeting with my coach, Chris Currens. My experience was mostly talking through things on our mind at the time. I certainly do not want to belittle the experience I had with my coach. My decision to start my MBA at Hood this year was based off some of the my conversations with Chris.
