Non-Degree Seeking Students

Individuals may enroll in undergraduate, graduate or Skill Accelerator badge coursework as non-degree seeking. Priority enrollment is given to degree-seeking students.

Before registering, those interested should do the following:

  • Review the schedule of badge and class offerings in Self Service. Instructions for viewing the schedule are found here.
  • Review the tuition and fees on the Accounting Services webpage. Undergraduate coursework is charged by the part-time, per-credit rate.  Graduate coursework is charged by the specific program rate under which the coursework is offered.

Schedules for Summer and Fall coursework are typically posted in Self Service in late March; schedules for Winter and Spring coursework are typically posted in late October. Review the Academic Calendar for registration dates.

Undergraduate Non-Degree Application/Registration form - this form is used for those who wish to enroll in undergraduate coursework as non-degree seeking. A transcript may be required if coursework has prerequisites, which can be emailed to registrar@hood.edu. Instructor approval is required for requests to audit coursework. Students will be emailed once the registration has been processed.

The Graduate School offers courses for individuals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree and are interested in Skill Accelerator badges or non-degree studies for professional development, continuing education or personal enrichment. Hood also provides the opportunity to sample a graduate degree program before deciding to apply. Up to twelve credits taken as a non-degree student may apply towards degree requirements for a master’s or certificate program. You can view the list of available spring 2025 non-degree courseshere. Learn more about our Skill Accelerator badge program here.

Students who have never taken graduate coursework at Hood, must complete the non-degree graduate application and registration form. You must also submit a copy of an official transcript to the registrar’s office at hoodgrad@hood.edu for verification of at least a bachelor’s degree (master's is fine as well) prior to enrollment. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above (3.0 for counseling coursework) to register as a non-degree student for graduate level badges and coursework.

Students who have previously taken graduate coursework at Hood, can complete the Online Registration Form, indicating the request to enroll as non-degree in the comments/note section of the form.

Priority enrollment in graduate classes is given to degree-seeking students. Program director and/or instructor approval may be required for non-degree registration (counseling coursework requires program director approval and registrations may be held until degree-seeking students are enrolled) and additional information may be required for registration approval.

Hood offers several opportunities for reduced tuition, including programs for older citizens and Hood alumnae and alumni.

Encore Program

The Encore Program enables Hood alumnae and alumni who hold a B.A. or B.S. from Hood to take undergraduate courses at one-half tuition.

Renewal Not Retirement

Hood’s Renewal Not Retirement (RNR) program offers persons 60 years of age or older the opportunity to audit undergraduate courses. Studio and lab courses, practicums and self-directed study courses are not available for audit. The cost is $100 per course.
