When Can I Enroll?
Qualifying Events
If you experience a qualifying life event during the plan year, you may be able to make a change to your pre-taxed benefits. Qualifying event examples would be:
- Adding a dependent through birth, adoption or marriage
- A spouse or other eligible dependent gains or loses health insurance coverage as the result of a change in employment or eligibility for coverage through their employer
- Or a court order
This is not a complete list. Voluntarily dropping COBRA coverage is not a qualifying event. Please reach out to the benefits manager within 30 days of experiencing a qualifying event to determine eligibility and effective date of change.
You will be asked to submit the change via the Employee Portal using the Life Events module (Menu/Myself/Life Events) and complete/return the Status Change form found below. Please contact the Benefits Manager for details.
Open Enrollment
Every spring, Hood offers an open enrollment period for the new plan year (July 1 - June 30). During the open enrollment period, employees are able to change their benefit elections, and add or drop dependents. Once open enrollment is closed, you may be limited to making changes only due to a qualified life event.
