Creating a Rubric

  • Use the required experience, skills and competencies listed in the job description as the criterion for the rubric.
  • List measurable achievements (4-point rating scale) for each criteria:
    • Less than requirement (1)
    • Meets requirement (2)
    • Exceeds requirement (3)
    • None (0)
  • The hiring manager or selection committee should define the scores that will sufficiently advance or eliminate a candidate from consideration.
  • Each hiring manager or member of selection committee should receive a copy of the rubric ahead of meeting a candidate and should complete and submit their rubric to the hiring manager after the meeting.
